7 REASONS WHY I USE FLAXSEED IN BEESWEET LEMONADE

  1. My great-granny Helen sent me her favorite flaxseed lemonade recipe from her 1940’s cookbook!
  2. Flaxseed is a great source of fiber.
  3. Flaxseed is a plant source of omega-3s
  4. Flaxseed contains lignans which reduce risk of several different cancers.
  5. Some call it one of the most powerful plant foods on the plant.
  6. It’s a very pretty flower and you can grow it in all regions of North America (it’s cold winter and drought tolerant)
  7. Flaxseed has been cultivated since ancient times. It’s mentioned in the Bible 6+ times.

Mikaila, I have a beehive and two lemon trees in my backyard, and have been making lemonade with their help for years. It never occurred to me to use flax seed in the mix. How do you process it – just grind it up into a powder and stir it in? I’ll understand if you can’t reveal trade secrets ;-)

I grew up around bees and even helped my dad rob our hives (we had about four). And occasionally we had to “calm” the bees when they left the hive with a queen. Dad taught us to do this by hitting a metal spoon against a metal bowl. After several minutes they would settle together on a branch of a nearby tree and then Dad would gently shake them into a new hive. Such sweet/fun memories involving bees. One of my favorite books is The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. So, besides the fact that you and I share a love of bees, I admire your entrepreneurship, maturity, poise, charitable giving, and especially the fact that you recognize the fact that our bees are in trouble and you are making an effort to educate others about this and are trying to do your part to change it. You are precious and I wish you continued success!
